This wonderful gravy can be eaten with mash, biscuits – heck it could almost be eaten on its own! It tastes good with store-bought “chicken” broth, but tastes even better if you’re willing to make your own. You can choose to leave out the nutritional yeast if you so desire, but it does make the gravy that bit creamier.
Preparation time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 15 minutes
Serves : 4
Ingredients :
1/2 pound mushrooms
2 1/4 cup water
1/2 cup nutritional yeast flakes
1/4 cup white flour
1/4 cup vegan margarine
1 teaspoon Bouquet browning sauce
3/8 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions :
1.In a medium nonstick skillet over a medium to high heat, add the margarine and then sauté the mushrooms until browned and limp.
2.In a small saucepan, mix the yeast, salt, flour and onion powder, then blend in water to make a sauce, while whisking. Stir continuously as you put it on a low heat and allow it to thicken.
3.Cook it for another minute, add the mushrooms and continue to stir.
4.Give it the good ole’ taste test and put in salt and onion powder if you’re so inclined.
